Second in a series. Covers the three events of the 1980s that impacted Burlington Northern. Focused on the railroads vast holdings in timber, oil, gas and underdeveloped land and minerals. It was the time of deregulation and work rules that governed operating and maintenance employes were restructured. Finally, merger with the Frisco Railroad in 1981 brought major change in the leadership of BN introducing new standards, work methods and technology to reduce the size of the workforce and increase earnings. Book concludes with evaluation of initiatives and strategies BN employed to reach goals set in the early 1980’s.
