Portland neighborhoods owe their location, alignment, and growth to 19th century streetcars. The city still bears the imprint of the carlines that once wove their way out to the suburbs in every direction. The system peaked in 1910s and entered a slow decline beginning in 1927 which ended the system in 1950 when it gave way to buses. Book traces the entire history illustrated with black/white photos and descriptive text.
