A recent addition to the museum, this ALCO FA1 was originally from the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway, and has been working on the East Coast for the past few decades until being returned to the Northwest in 2026.
In fact, the SP&S was a railroad with an apparent preference for ALCO locomotives, with around 100 different ALCO models being used on their system.
In contrast, the Union Pacific, Great Northern, and Northern Pacific (and many more) were more focused on EMD (or GE) locomotives and would only have a few ALCOs on their roster.
The ALCO company ceased operations in the 1970s.
