Milwaukee Road 01904

Milwaukee Road Caboose #01907 was donated to the museum in 1994 by the St Maries River Railroad.

This bay window caboose was built by the Milwaukee Road shops in 1941. A fully crewed caboose was required for rail safety until the 1980s.

Built in 8/1941 as 01904 in the standard Milwaukee orange and maroon lettering scheme.

In 1962 it was repainted, converted to oil and given a retention toilet. In 1973 it was renumbered to 991904 as part of a system wide renumbering.  It spent its career roaming around Washington, often being assigned to Tacoma and Spokane.

On March 15th, 1980 it was on the 2nd to last train out of the Coast division and was dropped off in St Maries, ID for STMA. It was renumbered as STMA 995 in the 1980s. It was donated to the museum in 1994 and eventually repainted in Milwaukee Road colors. It is currently waiting to be restored to in service appearance as funding allows.
